Disapprovals over illegal amnesties from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for convicted corruptors have failed to make the government reverse the commutations and further freed some of the corruptors out of jail this week.
Aulia Pohan, Yudhoyono's in law and ex deputy governor of the central bank jailed last year in June ahave walked away from prison on Wednesday after serving only 12 months of his discounted four and a half year term.
He previously had the Provincial High Court reduced his sentence by six months last September and a further one year last March by the Supreme Court, leaving his term to three years.
The Law and Human Rights Department said Aulia, and three other ex-central bank, left the prison on Wednesday (18/8) after only serving 14 months of his term. He received three month commutation last Tuesday on the Independence Day celebration and the law department said he has already been given a total discount of six months.
Other three central bank official released; Maman Sumatri, Bunbunan Hutapea, and Aslim Tadjuddin, also haven't serve the minimum two-third of their sentences when they were freed on Wednesday. They too, had commutations arranged for them which made the Supreme Court cut their jail terms to three years.
All were the central bankers charged for commissioning Rp100 billion in 2003 to fund legal assistance for Bank Indonesia officials implicated in Indonesian Banks Restructuring Program graft, and to defend the central bank position in a parliamentary legislation on the central bank at that time,
The highest ranking official implicated in the case, ex-Governor Gurhanuddin Abdullah had been freed on parole last March after serving 16 months of his original five year term which was reduced then to three years, also by the Supreme Court led by Harifin S Tumpa.
